An old soldier who had once lived at the Marion Soldiers' Home died on March 6, 1904, according to an Indianapolis Journal dispatch published two days later. He was ill when he was taken from the Muncie jail to a hospital, where the dispatch says he died within a few minutes. The jail, the hospital and the dispatch's account of his illness are the only sources we have for his death.
