According to the Frontier Index, as repeated in an Omaha despatch, a vigilance committee took one of three men from a jail near Bear River City and hanged him. The despatch said that other men in the area were ordered to leave within ten hours. The Chicago Tribune printed the account on November 20, 1868, reporting a death on November 12.
