A man held in a Minnesota jail was taken from the jail by a mob and hanged, according to a short report in the Shoshone Journal published in September 1896. The report describes him only as the second of two men taken that way and gives no name. It ties the killing to anger among friends of a sheriff who had been slain, after a first-degree murder conviction could not be obtained.

Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A short telegraphic report says a mob took the man from the Minnesota jail and hanged him.
