Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
A young Black man was held at a jail near Princeton, West Virginia, in March 1885, according to a newspaper report that is badly garbled in the surviving copy. The Weekly Oskaloosa Herald reported that a mob took him from the jail and killed him by riddling him with bullets. His name is not legible in the text, and the paper's account of how the jail and its officers responded is unclear.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
Reported by: historical newspaper report (OCR text) (reporters).
