Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
According to The Iowa Plain Dealer, a man held in the Nebraska City jail was taken out on the night of Saturday, July 30, 1887, by a group the paper described as farmers, and hanged. The paper's account, published August 4, 1887, reports the hanging without naming him, and the surviving text is partly garbled. His name cannot be read reliably from the account, so he is recorded without one.
