He was a Black man held in a jail, one of six men taken from it by a mob early on Sunday, May 21, 1911, and killed. According to the Daily Gate City of May 22, 1911, a group of men came to the jailer with a telegram that was later shown to be false, and the men were then taken from the jail and lynched.
