A person held in Vermont Department of Corrections custody died at North Country Hospital on January 1, 2022. The Department of Corrections, the Defender General's Office and the Vermont State Police attribute the death to acute mixed intoxication from methadone, hydroxyzine, sertraline and amitriptyline, with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as a contributing factor. The manner of death is recorded as an overdose.
