A person held at the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto died on August 31, 2024, and was pronounced dead at about 10:57 a.m. CoreCivic, which operates the jail under contract with Citrus County, said the death was an apparent suicide, and that the medical examiner will determine the cause. The person's name, age and sex have not been released. The sheriff's office said an investigation is underway.
