A 34-year-old man died in his cell at the Sacramento County jail early on Friday, January 6, 2017. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said he hanged himself with a strip of his blanket and described the death as an apparent suicide. According to the department's news release, deputies entered the cell to remove the blanket from his neck, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
