A man held at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, Nevada, was stabbed to death, and the Nevada Department of Corrections has opened a homicide investigation. The department said he was killed by a man who had been his cellmate at Ely State Prison, and the two had been moved to High Desert in a recent transfer. The union representing correctional officers said the transfer and understaffing at the facility may have contributed. NDOC said the attack was unrelated to the move.
Cause of death, as reported: Killed by another person in custody (neglect alleged). The Nevada Department of Corrections says the man was stabbed by his former cellmate and calls the attack unrelated to the transfer, while the correctional officers' union says the transfer and understaffing may have contributed.
