A 61-year-old man died in his single-occupancy cell at Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad, California, on the morning of April 22, 2017. His name had not been released. Prison officials declared him dead at 9:53 a.m., less than an hour after another death at the prison that morning. A spokesman said he could not comment on whether the death was being investigated as a suicide.
