A 32-year-old Black man held in a California prison died of valley fever, a fungal lung infection that developed into meningitis. Dr. John Galgiani, a professor of medicine, testified in U.S. District Court that the infection went unrecognized for at least two months while he lost weight, vomited, had headaches and coughed up blood.
