According to The Age-Herald of Montgomery, dated March 4, 1900, a mob took him from the custody of the sheriff near Letohatchie in Lowndes County, Alabama, and hanged him in March 1900. It states that the sheriff of Montgomery County was telegraphed for aid, but gives no account of any response.
