A man held in the Madison County jail in Madison, Florida, was a half brother of Jim Denson, who was held in the same jail. On January 3, 1901, persons unknown took him and Denson from the jail after the sheriff's keys were taken from him, and carried them to woods near town. The Age-Herald reported that both men were hanged there and that the bodies were shot. The sheriff gave up his keys to the mob rather than holding the jail.
