An unnamed man was being held under guard near Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 1857, on his way to the Pine Bluff jail. According to a Memphis Appeal report reprinted in The National Era, a mob took him from his escort before he reached the jail and hanged him from a tree. His name is not recorded in the account.
