Two people, whose names are not given, were taken from the jail in Belton, Texas, by a mob and killed, according to a letter from Maj. General Heintzelman quoted in the Evening Star. The letter's account is the only one cited, and it does not say how the mob reached them or whether the jailers resisted or handed them over. The killings are reported as having been carried out by the mob after they were taken from the jail.
