A man held in the custody of officers at Alton, Indiana, was taken from them by a mob and hanged, according to the Delaware Gazette and State Journal of August 1, 1895. The paper reported him as the second of two men taken from officers at Alton and hanged in this way. Both deaths were attributed to the mob.
