A Black man held in the custody of a sheriff in January 1913 was taken from the sheriff and his deputies by a mob, which hanged him in a public square. The Milford Chronicle account, published January 24, 1913, gives no name for him and no town for the killing. The sheriff's and deputies' conduct at the time of the seizure is not stated.
