Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
Two Black men being brought to a jail in Louisiana by two county sheriffs were taken from the officers late on July 30, 1909, and shot to death near Grand Prairie. Their names are garbled in the surviving newspaper text, so they are identified only by race and by the fact that they were in the sheriffs' custody. The account describes how a mob took the men from the officers and killed them.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
