Died in jail or a lockup
One of 2 people whose names were not reported
Two Black people were taken from the jail at Vienna, Louisiana, by a mob and shot to death, according to a short newspaper notice from November 1882. The notice gives no names, ages or sex for either person. A later account in the Daily Republican places the lynching on Monday night, November 6, 1882, and says four prisoners were taken from the jail, two of whom were killed. Neither source says whether the jailer or sheriff resisted the mob, gave up the keys, or handed the prisoners over.
