Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
One of three Italian men was taken from the jail at Hahnville, Louisiana, by a mob and killed, according to a 1897 newspaper account. The account says this happened about a year before the report, and that the United States later paid an indemnity to Italy for the deaths of the three men. Sources here are historical and sparse, so the sheriff's or jailer's response to the mob is not recorded.
