An unnamed man held in an Alabama prison had survived prostate cancer earlier. According to a report by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program, a blood test suggested the cancer had returned, but no follow-up test was given for about a year and a half. By then the cancer had spread to his bones, and he died less than a year later. The report attributes the delay to medical neglect.
