A Black man held in an Alabama jail was taken from it by a mob of armed men, who forced the jail and killed him. According to the report, the mob captured the sheriff before breaking in. The governor described the death as a homicide. The state Supreme Court later found the sheriff negligent in protecting the man and removed him from office.
