A 24-year-old man died on December 22, 2023, after being held at Southern Regional Jail in West Virginia. The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation said officers found him unresponsive in his cell, and that staff began life-saving measures before he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Division and the West Virginia State Police opened an investigation, and no cause of death had been released when the report was published.
