Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
A man held in the jail at Animas, Colorado, was taken out by a mob and hanged, according to a short telegraph item printed in the Sacramento Daily Record-Union in August 1882. The name is garbled in the scanned text, so he cannot be identified from this account. Nothing in the item says how the mob got in or whether jail staff resisted, gave up the keys or handed him over.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
