One of three brothers named McDonald, he was held at a jail in Texas. A report datelined Graham, Texas, published in the Daily Los Angeles Herald on January 4, 1882, said that during an escape attempt from the jail, the men died along with a deputy sheriff, and several other people were seriously wounded.
