A man held at the Orleans Justice Center collapsed in a fourth-floor housing unit on September 16, 2026, and was found unresponsive. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he stayed on life support until it was removed on September 22, and he died on September 23. The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office says medical reports cite cardiac arrest and lack of oxygen to the brain, and that a full report is still forthcoming. The sheriff's office also said it facilitated end-of-life visits for family members before he died.
