A man held at Wheeler County Correctional Facility in Georgia was found injured inside his housing unit on a Monday morning in March 2025. CoreCivic, which operates the facility, said staff gave medical care until emergency services took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. CoreCivic gave a medical emergency as the cause of death, and the Georgia Department of Corrections is investigating. The facility was placed on lockdown afterward.
