A 48-year-old man died on December 11, 2021, while held at the Jefferson County Jail. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said a deputy checking on him around 5:00 a.m. found him unresponsive in his cell. The sheriff's office said there was no sign of foul play or evident trauma and that the coroner would perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. His name had not been released.
