A man died in March 2026 at University Medical Center, after being taken there from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Louisiana, where he had been held. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says that deputies handcuffed and shackled him during an incident, after which he became unresponsive. No cause or manner of death has been determined, and the sheriff's office says a use-of-force investigation is underway and will be referred to the district attorney for review.
