A 52-year-old man died on February 19, 2020, at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk, Virginia. Jail officials said staff responded to a medical emergency just after 8:15 a.m. and gave life-saving measures, but Suffolk EMS pronounced him dead. He had recently been booked after first being refused, and had been sent to Sentara Obici for medical clearance before returning to the jail. His name was being withheld until his family was notified, and the jail and Suffolk police are investigating his death.
