A 57-year-old woman became unresponsive in a cell shortly after arriving at the Ripley County Jail in southern Indiana on November 1, 2023. Jail staff and medical personnel tried to save her before she was taken to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, where she was pronounced dead. Indiana State Police are investigating, and toxicology and autopsy results are pending. Police said foul play is not suspected.
