A 42-year-old man died on September 10, 2020, in his cell at the St. Clair County Jail in Illinois. According to a St. Clair County Sheriff's Office news release, he had returned to his cell alone and was found unresponsive around 10:15 p.m., and he was pronounced dead at the jail. The sheriff's office says he used a bed sheet to die by suicide, and it said cells were not required to be checked at that time. An autopsy was pending when the report was published.
