A 62-year-old man died at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center in New Mexico on August 17, 2025, a day after he was booked in there. Detention center officials and the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office say he had two medical emergencies, the second about 22 minutes after the first, and University of New Mexico Hospital staff declared him dead. The sheriff's office is investigating the death. The state Office of the Medical Investigator will determine the cause of death, which has not been established.
