A person held at Hamilton Correctional Institution in the Florida panhandle died on February 25, 2024, and was pronounced dead on that Sunday. The Florida Department of Corrections said the death appeared to be an assault by another person held at the prison. Its Office of the Inspector General opened an investigation and the department said it could not share more while that investigation is open. A separate state mortality listing records a death on the same date at Hamilton Annex, a state prison, with the manner given as homicide, and it is not stated there whether this is the same death.
