A man held in the custody of the Walker County Courthouse work crew in Huntsville collapsed and became unresponsive around 9:30 a.m. on June 9, 2026, according to the Walker County Sheriff's Office. He was taken to Huntsville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation, and his name has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.
