A 42-year-old woman died on August 19, 2026, six days after a suicide attempt at the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility in Wichita, Kansas, where she was held. She was hospitalized and placed on life support, and her family, who were able to visit and took part in medical decisions, asked that it be discontinued. Her name has been withheld at her family's request. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said it is investigating and has notified the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and the manner and cause of death remain pending.
