A man, 55, died on February 18, 2025, at Sangamon County Jail, in the custody of the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office. The death was reported to the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, which does not publish the names of the people who died. The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office reported the manner of death as natural causes. Its report says: “Subject was under medical observation while incarcerated due to a known extensive medical history. At 0830, staff conducting cell check found subject slumped over, entered the cell, and began CPR. Other staff responded, along with Fire and EMS.”
