A woman, 32, died on October 22, 2019, at Madison County Jail, in the custody of the Madison County Sheriff's Office. The death was reported to the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, which does not publish the names of the people who died. The Madison County Sheriff's Office reported the manner of death as suicide. Its report says: “female detainee that was hanging from the cell bars by a piece of clothing. She had a thermal shirt sleeve around her neck tied to the top bars above the upper bunk.”
