A Black man identified only as Haley was in the custody of a sheriff while being transported to the penitentiary in Arkansas, according to The Hattiesburg News of June 15, 1915. The paper reported that a mob of about 200 people took him from the sheriff and is believed to have lynched him. His body had not been found when the report was published.
