This person was one of three Black people who died when fire destroyed the jail in Dover, Stewart County, Tennessee, according to a March 1897 report in the Oxford Eagle. They were among four people held at the jail when the fire broke out. The paper reported that the three died in the blaze. One of the other people held there escaped.
