A Black man held in an Alabama jail was taken out by masked men and hanged, according to a brief item in The Brookhaven Ledger published April 20, 1882. The same item reported that a second Black man held at the jail was taken and killed in the same way. Both men were in the custody of the jail when the mob took them.
