Two Black men held in the Alcorn County jail in Corinth, Mississippi, were taken from the jail late on August 29, 1920, by a mob of about 100 people. According to The Southern Herald, the jailer was forced at gunpoint to hand over the cell keys, while the Macon Beacon reported that he complied. The mob hanged the two men from a telephone pole at a railroad crossing, and their bodies were found at dawn. Officials who looked into the killings could not find any trace of the mob, and a coroner's jury adjourned its hearing.
