Died in jail or a lockup
One of 2 people whose names were not reported
Two men held in a Tennessee jail were taken out early one morning in September 1916 by a mob, tied to trees with wire, and shot to death. The jailer was overpowered when the prisoners were secured, so the jail did not stop the mob. Neither man is named in the account, and nothing about who they were or their families is recorded.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
Reported by: Historical newspaper account (OCR text) (reporters).
