A 32-year-old man died on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman in Sunflower County. Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton said he died of multiple stab wounds inflicted by another person held at the prison, and she classified the death as a homicide. She declined to release his name until his relatives were notified. PBS reported that other people held at the prison were injured in disturbances that same day.
