Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
The Pensacola Journal reported in January 1910 that a Black man was being held in an Alabama jail and was not named. A few masked men overcame the deputies guarding the jail, took him, and killed him. The paper's editorial used the case to argue that sheriffs must take precautions against lynching, citing an Alabama Supreme Court decision that held a sheriff's conduct in a similar case warranted his removal from office.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
