A 17-year-old boy was found dead in his cell at the Kemper County Jail in Mississippi on July 26, 2020, days after he was taken into custody there. The sheriff said he never showed signs that he wanted to harm himself, which was the reason he was not placed on suicide watch. The sheriff's account is the only explanation given for why he was not on suicide watch, and the investigation into his death was still ongoing when the reports were published.
