Two Black men were taken into custody at a camp near Weeks' turpentine camp near Brooksville, Florida, and placed in the charge of deputies to be taken to jail. The Richmond Planet reported that the deputies instead took the men into the scrub and shot them to death. A search party later found their bodies, which had decomposed. The men's names are not recorded in the account, and no official explanation is quoted in the report.
