A Black man held in the jail at Louisville, Alabama, was taken from custody by a mob, according to a September 1904 account in the Richmond Planet. The paper reports that the mob got past the state troops guarding the jail, and that the guard gave up rather than protect him. The mob then tied him to a lamppost and shot him. The name of the man and the exact date of his death cannot be recovered from the garbled text of the report, and no other account has been found.
