The Roanoke City Sheriff's Office said a person held at the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center was found unresponsive during a scheduled medical round at about 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Deputies began CPR until Roanoke City Fire-EMS arrived, and the person was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. No name, age, or cause of death has been released, and the Virginia State Police are investigating how the death occurred.
